Grasses, Sedges, Rushes - Scientific (Latin) Names
"Traditional" Scientific Names for all species on this site

Scientific Names (also known as Latin Names) are the universally recognized way to distinctly refer to individual species of plants. Common Names will vary from region to region, but Scientific Names are consistent across regions. However, that doesn't mean that there is only one Scientific Name for each species; often there are several.

Please note that over the past couple of years many Scientific names for species have been changing due to DNA research. Therefore the Scientific name that you see on this site may not be the one that you are used to seeing for a particular species. For a list of those "Traditional" Scientific Names, CLICK HERE.

This is a list of the species found on this site, in order by the "Traditional" Scientific Name that is used for each species on this site. Each species appears only once in this list.
